Spoke Calculator
The right spoke length for your NonPlus hub and our rims. For J-Bend, Straight-Pull and M4, with spoke tension and bracing angle.
Guideline values for experienced wheel builders.
The Spoke Calculator provides guideline values based on our hub data and your input. It cannot know the tolerances of rim, hub, spoke and nipple. Have the values checked by a specialist workshop before ordering.
Operating instructions
- Choose a hub. Select the model and front or rear wheel. Bolt circle, flange distances and spoke type are filled in from our design data.
- Choose a rim. ERD and offset of our rims are stored. For another rim, enter the values from its data sheet.
- Set the build. Choose the hole count. With Straight-Pull and M4 the cross pattern is fixed.
- Read the result. Steel spokes are rounded up to the next even length, carbon spokes to the nearest even length. The exact calculated value is shown below.
- Have it checked. Before ordering or cutting spokes, have the values checked by a specialist workshop or our Wheel Specialist.

- Dimensions for PRIMARO T will follow. Enter your own measurements or ask us.
- Own dimensions: enter the values from your hub’s data sheet.
- ERD and offset from our rim data.
- Enter ERD and offset from the rim’s data sheet.
- With Straight-Pull and M4 the cross pattern is fixed.
- PRIMARO J is laced 2-cross.
- At least 2-cross, 3-cross recommended.
- Steel spokes: rounded up to the next even length.
- Carbon spokes: rounded to the nearest even length. Measured is the full spoke length.
- 12 mm alloy
- 5.5 mm alloy, internal
- Stretch under tension left / right:
- With bladed and plain-gauge spokes we round down if the exact value is at most 0.5 mm above an even length, so the nipple does not bottom out on the thread.
- Longer nipples: the thread sits further from the rim, so the spoke is shorter. 14 mm −1 mm, 16 mm −3 mm compared with 12 mm. Check against the nipple data sheet.
- Internal nipples: guide value plus 8.5 mm, depending on the design. Check against the nipple’s data sheet.
- exact
- The lower-tension side is below 50 %. Check cross pattern or hub.
- Own dimensions: every cross pattern can be chosen. Check radial lacing against the approval of hub and rim.
- Approved for this hub:
- J-Bend: the cross pattern can be chosen within limits, with 28 holes for example 2- or 3-cross.
- With Straight-Pull, M4 and T-Head the hub sets the cross pattern. Take it from the hub’s data sheet.
- Rear wheel: the freehub side (right, D) usually has the smaller flange distance. Check whether C and D are swapped.
- These values are stored for the selected hub or rim. To change them, tap “Enter my own values”.
- Radial lacing is not approved for every hub and rim, and never on the drive side of a rear wheel. Check the approval before building.
- J-Bend: the spoke runs through the flange hole, no offset.
- Straight-Pull: the spoke head sits 1 mm behind the flange centre, offset 1 mm.
- M4 carbon: there is no stop at the head. The spoke hole offset is 5 mm, on TORQON ULTRA M4 3.5 mm.
- T-Head: take the offset from the hub’s data sheet.
